Giacomo Koch is a consultant neurologist at the stroke unit of the University Hospital Policlinico Tor Vergata in Rome and leads a non invasive cortical stimulation lab at Santa Lucia Foundation in Rome, Italy. Dr Koch has a long-lasting expertise in clinical neurophysiology of the motor system and of cognitive functions, with a translational approach for the rehabilitation of stroke, movement disorders and multiple sclerosis. The main techniques are transcranial magnetic stimulation and transcranial direct current stimulation, also in combination with magnetic resonance imaging and EEG. The main goals of his research are to understand the mechanisms underlying cortical plasticity and cortical connectivity in the healthy human brain aimed to develop novel therapeutic approaches for recovery of neurological functions.
